My Conditions - Introduction

My Conditions

I was born with several conditions. Most of the conditions are connected to one another. Some are not.

My Facial Anomaly

I was born with an extremely rare craniofacial anomaly called arhinia. Arhinia is the absence of the nose.

My case of arhinia involves the anomalies listed below:

Complete absence of the external nose with virtually no nasal passage

A midline cleft, involving my lip and both hard and soft palates

Hypertelorism (wide-spaced eyes)

Midface hypoplasia (flat appearance to the face)

Absence of lacrimal (tear) ducts

Low-set ears

Absence of paranasal sinuses

Absence of the olfactory system

Mouth

I have a speech impairment due to my cleft palate. Please visit my Speech Disorder blog post for more information.

I have TMJ/TMD due to the misalignment of my upper and lower jaw. Please check out my TMJ/TMD blog post for more information.

Eyes

I have a condition known as nystagmus. Please check out my Nystagmus blog post for more information.

I also have myopia and astigmatism. Please visit my Low Vision blog post for more information.

Ears

I have conductive hearing loss. Please check out my Hearing Loss blog post for more information.

I have tinnitus even though I have not been officially diagnosed with it. Please visit my Tinnitus blog post for more information.

Brain

I have no sense of smell because I was born without an olfactory system. The condition is called anosmia. Please check out my Anosmia blog post for information and links.

I have a condition known as primary amenorrhea. Please visit my Amenorrhea blog post for information and links.
