1989

This was the last year that Dr. Tessier did any surgery on me. I was twenty-five (25) years old. I had the surgery done at MMC.

I had to be at the hospital sometime in the afternoon. Again I was following other people. I was taken to the Ambulatory Surgery area. I don't even remember what time I was wheeled off to holding. I do know that my IV was started in holding. But I don't remember much after that. I do believe that I was taken to the OR about 5:15 PM.

During the surgery, Dr. Tessier took flaps of skin from the end of my nose and tried to create a columella from those flaps. He also inserted tubing in the inner corner of my eye after he drilled holes thru my tearducts.

I woke up in recovery. I was eventually transferred to a room. I don't even remember what time I was transferred. I know that I wasn't in surgery too long. I must have been in my room by 8:00 PM or so.

I was sick a couple of times that night. I remember Mom and the nurse kind of getting into it a little bit. LOL But I don't remember what it was about. LOL

By morning, I was fine. Dr. Tessier, my PS, and the residents made rounds. I was released from the hospital by 10 AM.

As you can see, there was nothing really remarkable about the surgery or short hospital stay.

Epilogue

My newly-constructed columella eventually pulling away. It would be more than two years before my PS would attempt any surgery to reattach my columella.
